Zu dieser Karte lautet der Text anlässlich einer Versteigerung:

"Insular Aliqvot Aegaei Maris Antigva Descrip." Copper etching by Abraham Ortelius, dated 1584. Reverse text in German describes each of the shown islands.More recent hand coloring.

Decorative map showing some of the major islands of the Aegean Sea. In the upper left are the islands of Rincia and Dilos. Directly below in red is the island of Ikaria. In the center under the title is Evvoia with a list of topographical highlights in the yellow "mainland" section. Samos is in the upper right and just below it in green is Kéa. In the lower center is Cyprus with a list of topographical features. To the left of Cyprus is Ródos and below in green is Quíos. To the right of Cyprus is Lésvos and below in the lower right corner is Lemnos. The names of ancient towns and peoples are of special historical interest.

The lower centerfold part had a worm visitor in ages past. A former owner had the map restored by underlaying about 8 square inches with old paper. The old worm holes are hardly visible from the from, but against the light they show. The rarety of this particular map and the many people waiting for it has prompted us to refrain this one time from our stiff criteria for acceptance. The pricce has been adjusted to the undeniable faults of the map.
