Michel-Nummer 430

Kopf einer Krankenschwester, Emblem

4. August 1975: Internationaler Tag der Krankenschwester

Etwas schwer erklärbar ist das Emblem: eine Öllampe mit einer aufgesteckten Kerze: wohl zu viel des Guten!

HISTORY
In 1953 an official with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare proposed that then-President Eisenhower proclaim a "Nurse Day," although he did not sign it. In 1955 a Nurses Week bill was introduced in Congress, but no action was taken. Congress discontinued the practice of issuing joint resolutions for national weeks.

Although other attempts at establishing a "nurses day" were not successful, President Nixon proclaimed a National Nurse Week in 1974.

In 1982, a joint congressional resolution designated May 6 as "National Recognition Day for Nurses."

In 1991, the celebration was expanded to National Nurses Week (May 6-12) to accommodate the varied schedules of America's nurses.
