Nach dem "Postbuch" handelt es sich hier um das Gemälde "Frühling in Monagrouli" (Spring in Monagrouli).

TELEMACHOS KANTHOS (1910-1993)

Kanthos was born in Alona / Pitsilia, in1910. 

He spent his school years at the Greek Gymnasium in Famagusta. 

In 1929 he went to Greece to study Architecture but was soon drawn to Art. 

He studied Painting at The School of Fine Arts of the Athens Polytechnic Athens, under Spyros Vikatos, Argyros, Biskinis and Yiannis Kefallinos (1930-40) in the company of  cp-students Tassos, Tsarouchis and Engonopoulos . 

He worked in Athens and Corfu as a Graphic Artist, but with the onset of the Second World War he returned to Cyprus, where he first worked and exhibited in Alona and then, from 1950 was appointed and taught Art at The Pancyprian Gymnasium in Nicosia until 1969. 

Concentrated in Painting, Engravings, Stage Sets and Costumes. 

His first personal exhibition was in 1934 in Famagusta. He is considered as one of the «fathers» of Cypriot art and the chief painter of Cypriot landscape and rural life. 

In 1984 he won 2nd prize in engraving at the Alexandria Bienanale. 

His contribution to the Arts and Theatre was honored by the Greek Academy of Arts in 1979. He died on 18 November 1993
