has been famous since ancient times for its forests which presently cover
about 1/5 of its land area. The most important forest trees are: Brutia pine
(Pinus brutia), Black pine
(Pinus nigra), Cyprus cedar
(Cedrus brevifolia),
Cyprus tree (Cupressus sempervirens and, of the broadleaved, Plane tree (Platanus
orientalis) and Alder (Alnus orientalis).
